Finally, Shenzhen's performing scene is retrieving its energy with some major venues back in business after a two-month "winter sleep".    
To celebrate the spring return, the Shenzhen Concert Hall proudly launches a brand-new performing season that introduces many excellent international musicians. On April 11, the violin recital by Paganini Award-winner Huang Mengla is expected to make an auspicious beginning. Then the prestigious Vienna Solo Strings arrives on April 18. From string to brass, the Ensemble Paris Lodron will be playing top-notch brass music on April 27.
In the Shenzhen Grand Theater, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra presents audiences three quality concerts, namely the "Wonderful Journey of Nature" concert on April 4, the "2008 Spring-Summer Music Season" concert on April 18, and a concert dedicated to great French composer, Maurice Ravel, on April 25.
Other than classical, the arrival of Secret Garden - Norway's best-selling crossover group - must be exciting New Age music lovers. The duo will be playing at the Auditorium of Shenzhen Citizen Center on April 25. Don't miss! Also, arty folks will love the inspirational "The Night of the Adeaters" show at the Shenzhen Poly Theater on April 26 and 27.
A terrible fire recently almost destroyed the Shenzhen Free Art Base (SZFAB) — home to many Shenzhen-based independent artist. Therefore, the "Restarted & Refreshed" group exhibition throughout the month will contribute towards the casualties of the fire and the rebirth of the new SZFAB in Bao'an District.
The solo exhibition of print artist Su Xinping is now being held at the He Xiangning Art Museum though May 4, showcasing his profound reflection upon life with 20 of his best-known works.
Having her first Shenzhen exhibition, "Colors", held in a trendy design shop named "LSD" until May 18, French abstract painter, Maryline Ferraroli, is acclaimed for her artistic expression in the combination of multiple colors. It's worth a visit. Also from last month, images of world-famous Dutch photographer, Erwin Olaf, accesible at the Space E6 until April 27 is rather challenging to the eyes.
With one more month to go, the "Imperial porcelain from the Qing Dynasty" exhibition at the Shenzhen Museum, and "The 6th Shenzhen Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition" at the OCT Contemporary Art Terminal are still accessible; catch them before they close.
And finally, at Shangsh Bar, arthouse classics by French New Weave directors, including François Truffaut and Eric Rohmer, will be screened. The Art de Vivre Restaurant has also joined in to play more movies every weekend. This month will see a welcome retrospective of the brilliant French actress, Juliette Binoche.
